چکیده

Fatty acid influx into human myocardium was studied in 15 patients during the cooling phase of cardiopulmonary bypass at myocardial temperatures of 370 to 25°C. The fitting of the data to a functional relation, developed in this study, revealed fatty acid influx to be a temperature-dependent saturable process corresponding to a Michaelis-Menten constant (K.) at 370C of 0.26±0.084 ,umol/g, a maximal fatty acid influx velocity (Vm.) at 37°C of 0.28±0.045 gumol/g per minute, activation energy for fatty acid binding to the putative carrier (E) of 23.8±5.6 kcal/mol, and a free energy for conformational change of the carrier (U) of 10.9±8.0 kcal/mol. In short-term cultured hepatocytes, K. increased in the absence of Na+ from

Absent myocardial iodine-123-BMIPP uptake and platelet/monocyte CD36 deficiency.

UNLABELLED Global absence of myocardial 123I-15-(p-iodophenyl)-3-(R,S)-methyl pentadecanoic acid (BMIPP) uptake is occasionally noted, and it reflects myocardial long-chain fatty acid uptake abnormality. CD36, a membrane glycoprotein expressed on platelet, monocyte and endothelial cells, may contribute to myocardial fatty acid transport, and its deficiency has been reported in a small subset of...

[Assessment of myocardial fatty acid metabolism in patients with angina pectoris and diabetes mellitus using 123I-BMIPP myocardial scintigraphy].

PURPOSE We studied the effect of myocardial ischemia and diabetes mellitus (DM) on the myocardial fatty acid metabolism using 123I-BMIPP myocardial scintigraphy. METHODS We performed 123I-BMIPP myocardial scintigraphy in 50 patients with myocardial ischemia and without DM (AP), in 30 patients with myocardial ischemia and DM (AP + DM), 12 patients with DM and without myocardial ischemia (DM), ...

Improved myocardial lactate extraction after propranolol in coronary artery disease: effected by peripheral glutamate and free fatty acid metabolism.

Ten patients with chronic effort angina and coronary artery disease (luminal diameter reduction greater than 75%) were stressed by atrial pacing (140 beats/minutes) before and 15 minutes after intravenous propranolol (mean dose 7.4 mg). Myocardial substrate exchange of oxygen, blood lactate, plasma free fatty acids, citrate, glucose, glutamate, and alanine as well as coronary sinus blood flow w...

Increased Myocardial Uptake of Dietary Fatty Acids Linked to Cardiac Dysfunction in Glucose-Intolerant Humans

Impaired cardiac systolic and diastolic function has been observed in preclinical models and in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Using a recently validated positron emission tomography (PET) imaging method with 14(R,S)-[(¹⁸F]-fluoro-6-thia-heptadecanoic acid to quantify organ-specific dietary fatty acid partitioning, we demonstrate in this study that overweight and obese subjects with impaired gl...

Myocardial blood flow, oxygen consumption, and fatty acid uptake in endurance athletes during insulin stimulation.

We have previously demonstrated reduced myocardial glucose uptake rates in hearts of endurance athletes, which could be due to increased use of alternative fuels or reduced energy demands. In the present study myocardial blood flow, oxygen consumption, and free fatty acid uptake were measured with [15O]H2O, [15O]O2, [18F]FTHA, and positron emission tomography (PET) in 9 endurance athletes and 1...
